After Treatment

On some occasions cleaning of the root canals may cause irritation and inflammation of the nerves surrounding the tooth, resulting in sensitivity to touching, tapping or biting.  This discomfort usually subsides within one to two weeks, and we ask that you avoid chewing on this tooth for that period of time.

Over-the-counter analgesics such as Advil (adults can take 2,3 or 4 every 4 hours if needed) or Aleve (1 or 2 every 6 hours if needed), or their equivalent, are the most effective pain medications.  Tylenol or Extra Strength Tylenol can be taken as an alternative if you are unable to tolerate Advil or Aleve.
